Gaucho and M Restaurants pledge meals, kitchen facilities and accommodation to help homeless charities over Christmas

The Gaucho steakhouse chain has organised two charity initiatives in partnership with Only A Pavement Away and City Harvest to prevent food waste and support homeless people in London.

As London restaurants were plunged into Tier 3 restrictions over the weekend, Gaucho and M Restaurants have pledged meals, kitchen facilities and accommodation to help homeless charities.

Gaucho and M have committed to provide 100 hot meals per day to rough sleepers on the streets of London from 21 December, as well as festive indoor meals – including steak, roast and sides – to homeless people on 24, 28 and 31 December.

Gaucho's burger menu, as well as fruit, croissants and water, will also be provided to Crisis homeless charity volunteers working in logistics, warehouses and call centres in Poplar.

City Harvest will also be given any surplus food from Gaucho and M's restaurants in London to distribute among vulnerable people and avoid this going to landfill.

Gaucho and M chief executive, Martin Williams, said: "We are delighted to work with our partners to minimise our food wastage and more importantly to help those in need of support at this time of year. Sadly many in hospitality are amongst those on the streets, so it is a poignant gesture, which we encourage other restaurants to follow."
