The Liverpool branch of Hooters is set to close in the new year.
Director Barry Morris confirmed to Liverpool Echo that the Water Street venue will shut permanently on 11 January.
The American restaurant chain opened what it described as the UK’s largest sports bar and grill inside New Zealand House in November 2022.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Morris said it had been “a very difficult year for the business”, citing factors including the loss of key signage and disruption caused by Liverpool parade day.
The news outlet also reported that the business has faced accusations from staff that they were denied money accrued from tips and service charges since August.
Under the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023, gratuities and service charges must be paid to workers in full, without deductions.
Barry, who took on the role of director in April 2024, added: “As a Scouse family man, I want the venue to better reflect Liverpool — its people, its culture, and its love of sport and hospitality. I believe now is the right time to move away from the Hooters brand and create a more inclusive concept that locals can be proud of.”
Hooters will continue to operate its two remaining UK sites in Newcastle and Nottingham.
