JKS has kept hold of the site since the Michelin-starred restaurant closed this year
JKS Restaurants is to open its fourth Hoppers restaurant in London, located in the former Lyle’s site in London’s Shoreditch.
The Sri Lankan concept is taking over the Tea Building site after Michelin-starred Lyle’s, which was run by chef James Lowe and backed by JKS, closed after 11 years in May.
Hoppers Shoreditch will open in early 2026 and serve a new menu influenced by the southern states of India. The menu will include curries, dosas, street food and biryanis inspired by Chettinad, Madurai, Bangalore, Kochi and Chennai, served alongside Hoppers’ signature dishes.
The restaurant design will include carved beams inspired by the palaces and traditional homes of South India.
The first Hoppers opened on Frith Street, Soho, in October 2015 and there are now restaurants in Marylebone and King’s Cross.
Founder Karan Gokani said: “This opening marks a very exciting new chapter for us. Over the past decade, Sri Lanka has been at the heart of what we do but our Indian heritage and journeys through South India have opened up a world of flavours, traditions and stories that have greatly inspired us. At Shoreditch, we will celebrate many of the lesser-known regions and dishes of South India while continuing to connect the dots between Lanka and India in a way that feels fresh, vibrant and deeply personal.”
