Interstate announces Nicholas Northam's retirement

Nicholas Northam is to retire as executive vice president of Interstate Hotels & Resorts at the end of the year after more than 40 years in the industry.

Interstate, which is the international division of US global hotel management company Aimbridge Hospitality, operates a portfolio of 129 properties in Europe, including the 30-strong Jupiter Hotels group. It intends to announce Northam's successor in the coming weeks.

Northam joined the third-party management company in 2016 as managing director, taking over from Robert Crook who was retiring. He joined the company from Realstar Hotels where he was vice-president, having previously worked for Marriott when the UK portfolio was operated by the Whitbread Hotel Company.

During his time with Interstate, he has played a pivotal role in Interstate's growth and its merger with Aimbridge Hospitality in 2019, and more recently navigated the company through the pandemic.

Northam said it had been "a real honour and a privilege" to lead Interstate for the last five years: "I'm very proud to have worked alongside such a committed and experienced team. However, after four decades in the industry and with Interstate flourishing internationally, now is the right for me to step into retirement."

Mike Deitemeyer, president and chief executive of Aimbridge Hospitality, added: "We deeply appreciate Nick's leadership of our Interstate team in the UK and Europe. During his remarkable tenure, he led significant growth for the region and built a strong team that remains focused on adding value for the portfolio of hotels throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe and Russia."

Interstate manages a plethora of hotel brands including Autograph, Crowne Plaza, Hilton, Marriott and Mercure. Its portfolio also comprises a number of independent hotels, restaurants and spa and health brands such as Novelli at City Quays and Mamucium.
