Jesmond Dene House hotel changes hands in off-market deal

The four-AA-star Jesmond Dene House hotel in Newcastle has been sold to Kronen Hotels in an off-market deal.

The 40-bed property was put up for sale by its former owners, who have run the hotel since 2005, as they plan to retire.

Jesmond Dene House is a Grade II-listed mansion that was once home to Sir Andrew Noble, a partner in Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong's engineering works.

It is home to the two-AA-rosette Fern restaurant, which was launched by Danny Parker in 2021 and is now led by executive head chef Eddie Saint.

A spokesperson for Kronen Hotels said: "We are proud to become the custodians of Jesmond Dene House. We are acutely aware of the responsibility we have to look after the first-rate team and guests which value the hotel, as well as its suppliers and other supporters.

"We have every intention of building on the foundations that the current owners and management team has established, and we recognise their role in building Jesmond Dene into the special hotel that it is today."

Knight Frank acted on behalf of Kronen Hotels while independent broker Simon Stevens Associates acted on behalf of the sellers.

Simon Stevens said: "We're confident we have found a buyer that will keep the hotel in safe hands and continue to raise its profile as one of the best hotels in Newcastle."
