The UK’s first Captain D’s will open in Broadstairs later this month
North American seafood and chicken restaurant Captain D’s is set to make its UK debut later this month in Broadstairs, Kent.
The fast-casual diner will open on 20 October in the former site of Debenhams in Westwood Cross shopping centre, serving a selection of Nashville Hot Fish, hand-breaded chicken tenders, and hush puppies.
Captain D’s was founded in 1969 in Donelson, Tennessee, and has since grown to more than 530 restaurants across 23 US states.
The Broadstairs opening will be followed by two additional UK restaurants in Sussex and Hampshire, which form part of a 20-unit master franchise agreement with local partner CD’s Holdings.
Fran Donovan, centre director at Westwood Cross, said: “Captain D’s is a much-loved American brand, and it brings something truly unique not just to Broadstairs, but to the country. We’re excited for our guests to enjoy its signature seafood and chicken dishes and experience its Southern-inspired hospitality for themselves, and we look forward to sharing more details soon.”
Daryl Stutchbury, UK chairman of Captain D’s, added: “Captain D’s isn’t just another fast-food outlet – it’s a premium experience rooted in quality, community and innovation.
“We’re proud to be setting the stage here in Kent and can’t wait to welcome our first guests.”
Captain D’s joins an increasing roster of North American brands setting foot across the Atlantic, including Popeyes, which opened its first UK store in London’s Stratford in 2021; Dave’s Hot Chicken, which launched in London’s West End late last year; and Carl’s Jr, which made its UK debut in Cardiff this April.
Last month, US fried chicken giant Raising Cane’s confirmed plans to open its first UK restaurant late next year.
