The Pig to open first pub with rooms in the Cotswolds

The Pig and the Village Pub are taking over the space of the Boot in Cirencester, which opened in November 2022.

The Pig is planning to open its first village pub in Cirencester on 14 June on the former site of the Boot.

The team behind the Chelsea Pig by Timothy Oulton in London, which closed earlier this year to make way for the Gladwin Brothers’ first pub, originally opened the Boot in Barnsley with head chef John Jewell in November 2022.

The Boot also featured six bedrooms and served dishes using produce from the gardens of Barnsley House.

The Boot and Barnsley House was acquired by the Pig hotel group in January this year amid the country house hotel group’s plans to expand its restaurants with rooms offering.

The Pig and the Village Pub in Barnsley, the Cotswolds, is set to open this year, starting with the launch of the group’s own-brand pub next month.

It will also include “a small but perfectly formed spa”, according to the Pig website.

In an Instagram post published today (22 May), the Pig said: “Just four miles from the market town of Cirencester, in the Cotswolds village of Barnsley, The Village Pub is a classic English country inn, with oak-beamed ceilings, dimly lit corners and roaring open fireplaces.

“Whether you’re stopping for supper, pulling up a stool for a pint or would like to rest up in one of our 6 gorgeous bedrooms, there’ll always be a warm welcome from behind the bar.”

It comes after Pig hotels revealed plans to open the Pig on the Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon and another Pig at Grade I-listed Groombridge Place in Tunbridge Wells late last year.
