Restaurant booking platform deal follows food delivery app’s £2.9b acquisition of Deliveroo
US food delivery app DoorDash has picked up its second major acquisition in a week with the buyout of restaurant booking platform SevenRooms.
This follows the firm’s £2.9b acquisition of UK counterpart Deliveroo, after Deliveroo suspended a £100m share buyback programme last month. The food delivery company had just posted a profit for the first time since its founding in 2013.
The SevenRooms deal is intended to expand DoorDash’s commerce platform capabilities and equip operators with new tools which could grow both onsite and delivery sales, build stronger customer relationships and increase profitability.
The acquisition, a £900m ($1.2b) all-cash transaction, is expected to close during the second half of 2025, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Founded in 2011 in New York City by Joel Montaniel, Allison Page and Kinesh Patel, SevenRooms delivers tools for marketing, operations and guest experience – integrated with its CRM – to help restaurants, hotels, and hospitality businesses deepen guest relationships, streamline operations and drive revenue growth.
As part of DoorDash, SevenRooms will have access to expanded resources and global reach. Both parties will continue to support an open, partner-friendly ecosystem.
Parisa Sadrzadeh, vice president, strategy and operations at DoorDash, said: “We’re enhancing the DoorDash Commerce Platform to help merchants serve their customers across all channels.
“With SevenRooms, we’re excited to give local businesses around the globe new ways to bring more guests in the door, build and grow direct relationships with their customers, access best-in-class CRM, and drive profitability through smarter marketing.”
SevenRooms’ Montaniel added: “With an operator-first mentality at our core, we’re excited to embark on this next chapter with DoorDash – delivering greater innovation, a direct channel to a network of millions of DoorDash consumers, more personalised guest relationships and elevated experiences that transform first-time diners into loyal regulars.
“Together, we’re equipping restaurants with the tools to own the guest experience, grow their customer base, and thrive in an omnichannel world – inside and outside of the merchant’s four walls.”
William Blair served as exclusive financial advisor, and Goodwin Procter as legal advisor to SevenRooms on this transaction. A&O Shearman served as legal advisor to DoorDash.
