Restaurant 1890

Gordon Ramsay is to relaunch a former private dining space at London's Savoy hotel as Restaurant 1890. The venue will pay homage to legendary chef Georges Auguste Escoffier, who joined the hotel in 1890 and invented dishes including the peach Melba in its kitchens.

Restaurant 1890 will seat just 26 guests and open Wednesday to Saturday for two dinner sittings. The tasting menu is priced at £110 per head, with wine pairing options, and is described as serving "seasonal modern French" dishes with European influences.

Executive chef James Sharp (pictured) will lead the team, having joined Ramsay's Royal Hospital Road restaurant in 2015 and more recently worked as senior sous chef at Pétrus. Sarah Rhone, formerly of the Square and Elystan Street, has been appointed general manager, while head sommelier is Emanuel Pesqueira, who has held roles at Edwardian Hotel Group and 67 Pall Mall Club.

Restaurant 1890 will be the Ramsay's third concept to open at the Savoy, joining the Savoy Grill, which he took over in 2003, and the recently launched River Restaurant.
