The Devon hotel, which closed last year, has relaunched under a new operator
Lewtrenchard Manor hotel in Devon has reopened under a new operator after closing last year.
The 13-room hotel, which dates to the 1600s, shut its doors in 2024 after more than 30 years of trading owing more than £400,000 in debts.
It had been run by the Murray family since 2012, who blamed the closure on “difficult trading conditions”. Filings show £50,000 was owed to the hotel’s landlord, the Baring-Gould Corporation.
The landlord has now granted a new long-term lease to Original Collection, which was founded in 2013 and runs a group of 10 boutique hotels.
Lewtrenchard Manor resumed operations today (25 July) following a £3m refurbishment, which has seen the installation of a new roof and kitchen and restoration of original plasterwork and features.
The hotel restaurant is also set to relaunch under the new name Origin. It will be open to hotel guests and the public and showcase south-west produce with both à la carte and tasting menus.
Nick Dent, founder of Original Collection, said: “We are proud to become the next custodians of Lewtrenchard Manor, and we have been busy over the past few months fully renovating the hotel and planting out the kitchen garden.
“We’re in the business of creating great memories, and we look forward to welcoming people back to experience the amazing food and the new bar, and leave with special new memories. We’re excited about what the future holds.”
Lewtrenchard Manor was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as a royal manor owned by Rogerius de Mole.
