Megaro hotel blamed the closure on a challenging economic climate and its disappointing trading performance
Adam Simmonds’ restaurant at London’s Megaro hotel has closed its doors with immediate effect less than a year after its launch.
Voyage with Adam Simmonds shut its doors at the King’s Cross hotel on 21 August.
The hotel said in a statement: “This decision has been made in light of the challenging economic climate and disappointing trading performance, which have made the operation unsustainable.
“Details regarding the future development of the restaurant space will be shared in due course.
“The team would like to thank all guests, partners and supporters for their patronage and encouragement throughout Voyage’s journey.”
The minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired restaurant opened in January and served a tasting menu priced at £115 for seven courses or £85 for five courses, alongside an à la carte offer including carrot four ways with buckwheat and yeast (£32) and lobster with razor clams, caviar and nettle (£45).
In her review for the Guardian, Grace Dent said some diners would find the experience “like a trip to a weight loss camp”. “Voyage is not for everyone, sure, but others will love it,” she added.
Simmonds joined the Megaro hotel as chef patron in May last year. He previously ran kitchens at the Capital hotel and Belmond Cadogan in London. He was executive chef of Danesfield House in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, for six years, where he won Chef of the Year (fewer than 250 covers) at the 2011 Hotel Cateys.
The chef also oversees the more casual Spagnoletti Italian restaurant at the Megaro hotel, which appears to be still trading as normal.
