The Edinburgh restaurant, which is listed in the Michelin guide, will run its final service on 1 June
Edinburgh fine dining restaurant Fhior is to close its doors after nearly seven years of trading.
Chef and co-owner Scott Smith announced the closure on Instagram earlier this week. He wrote: "After seven incredible years, we’ve made the deeply difficult decision to bring our restaurant, Fhior, to a close.”
Fhior, which is an adaption of the word ‘true’ in Gaelic, opened in 2018 and is recommended in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland.
Smith said that “a very difficult hospitality climate has taken its toll” on him and his co-owner and wife Laura Smith
He said the closure was also due to “personal and practical factors, including the arrival of our second child and a desire to spend more time with our growing family”.
Smith, who appeared in the Great British Menu in 2021, said the Fhior team had been part of discussions around the closure and “have all been given time to find new jobs to go on to”.
Fhior will run its final service on 1 June.
Smith said in the coming months he and Laura will focus on growing Blank Plate Creative, their restaurant consultancy service.
