The two cities recorded the steepest annual declines in room rates over the Christmas period
Leeds posted the sharpest decline in daily average daily room rates across all UK regions in December, down 1.9% year-on-year to £85.04 per day.
Manchester posted the second steepest decline in room rates year-on-year during the festive period – down 1.6% to £102.29, according to data compiled by HotStats.
These declines compounded declines in revenue per available room (revpar) across the two cities – down 5.7% and 2.5% across Liverpool and Manchester respectively.
Average daily rates for Edinburgh over the Christmas period were broadly flat year-on-year, while Glasgow’s daily rate slid 1.5% to £106.90.
By contrast, Aberdeen posted the strongest rise in average daily rates of all UK cities over the Christmas period, up 4.8% to £75.92, while Liverpool recorded a 2% rise year-on-year to £77.20.
The picture across the rest of the UK was similarly mixed over the festive period – Cardiff’s revpar climbed 5.9% year-on-year to £90.44, the strongest percentage uplift of any UK city during the period, while London delivered a 1.9% uplift in revpar in like-for-like terms.
On a month-on-month basis Aberdeen, Glasgow and Cardiff delivered the biggest uplifts in revpar – up 26%, 23.4% and 20.2% respectively.
Bristol measured the sharpest decline in revpar across all UK cities on a monthly basis – down 6.4% to £66.55.
