He takes over from Susanne Hatje, who was responsible for opening the hotel last June
Hemal Jain has been appointed general manager at London’s Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, replacing Susanne Hatje.
Hatje joined the 50-bedroom Hanover Square hotel in 2021 from Mandarin Oriental New York to oversee its highly anticipated launch in June last year.
Jain was previously at Mandarin Oriental Canouan, St Vincent and the Grenadines as general manager, bringing with him over 20 years’ experience in the industry.
Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions across Asia, India and beyond, and at 29, he became one of the youngest general managers with Hyatt’s Alila hotels and resorts.
Jain said: “Following a successful launch, I am honoured to lead this extraordinary hotel, positioned at the crossroads of fashion, art and culture, in one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods. I am deeply passionate about curating exceptional guest experiences and look forward to continuing Mandarin Oriental’s legacy of excellence across every aspect of our operations.
Torsten van Dullemen, group director of sustainability and area vice president operations, added: “Hemal has made a strong contribution to Mandarin Oriental over the years, and we are pleased to see him take on this new role. His operational experience and thoughtful leadership will be valuable as the hotel continues to grow its presence in one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.”
Mandarin Oriental Mayfair marks the hotel group’s second London property and is home to the UK’s first Akira Back restaurant, as well as the Michelin-starred Dosa by Akira Back.
The hotel and the 77 Residences at Mandarin Oriental is owned by Clivedale London.
Mandarin Oriental Group operates over 40 hotels across 26 countries and territories.
