Pret increases cost of rebranded coffee subscription

High street chain Pret A Manger will be increasing the cost of its coffee subscription from £25 to £30 as part of a rebrand and expansion of the service.

The group said that existing subscribers would continue to pay £25 for the first 40 days, with the monthly charge upping to £30 at their next billing cycle on or after 5 June.

Pret's Coffee Subscription will be rebranding from today to ‘Club Pret' and will henceforth cover all freshly made food, snacks and drinks. Subscribers will be able to get 10% off everything sold in-shop, as well as up to five barista-prepared drinks per day, for £30 per month and half price in the first month. Club Pret is already live in most of Pret's 439 UK shops.

Pret turned to the coffee subscription service in 2020 to accelerate its recovery after being hit hard by enforced closures during the pandemic (https://www.thecaterer.com/news/pret-coffee-subscription-service).

Pret A Manger chief executive Pano Christou said: "Over the past year, we've thought long and hard about the best way to support the people who matter most to Pret – our team members who do such an outstanding job, day in and day out, as well as our customers.

"That's why we've increased pay three times in the last 12 months, and reinvested in benefits to support our people through the cost of living crisis.

"It's now time that we give back to our most loyal customers, expanding the subscription and making our freshly made food, snacks and organic coffee more accessible to the people who have been crucial to Pret's success. That's what Club Pret is all about."

Pret employs nearly 8,000 people in the UK. The first shop of the sandwich and coffee business opened in London in 1986. The group now has more than 550 shops across more than 10 countries internationally including the UK, Ireland, US, Hong Kong, France, Dubai, Kuwait, Switzerland, Brussels, Singapore and Germany. The company has revealed plans to double the size of the business by 2026.
