The bar opened in 2016 as one of the first in a wave of competitive socialising concepts
Crazy golf bar Swingers is to close its original location in the City of London due to plans to demolish the building.
The Bank location will shut its doors for the final time on 22 March ahead of a planned redevelopment by the landlord.
Swingers City originally opened in 2016 and was the company’s first permanent site following the success of its Shoreditch pop-up.
It was one of the first venues in the competitive socialising market, offering crazy golf, cocktails and street food in a theatrical setting.
A wave of experiential entertainment venues have since launched with the likes of ping pong concept Bounce, darts bar Flight Club and shuffleboard venue Electric Shuffle opening multiple sites.
When the City site closes Swingers will be left with one London venue and it has expanded to the US with openings in New York, Washington DC and Las Vegas. Sites are also set to open in Boston and Dubai later this year after the group secured a £40m investment in 2023.
Matt Grech-Smith, co-founder and co-chief executive of Swingers, said: “Swingers City was where it all started. When we first signed the lease, we had no idea how much this venue would shape not only our business but the wider competitive socialising scene. At the time, the concept of combining crazy golf with high-quality food and drink in an immersive setting was virtually unheard of.
“Swingers City helped pave the way for an entire industry, inspiring a new era of social entertainment. It has been an incredible ride, and we are so grateful to our amazing team, loyal guests, and everyone who has been part of the Swingers City story.
“While we are sad to see it go, we are excited to continue building on its legacy as we continue to expand.”
