Trafalgar Square pub fire under investigation

The cause of a fire at Fuller's Admiralty pub in London's Trafalgar Square that broke out yesterday is under investigation.

Around 150 people evacuated the pub and surrounding businesses before the fire brigade arrived. There are understood to have been no reports of any injuries.

Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters tackled the blaze at its height, with crews from Soho and surrounding fire stations attending the incident, which damaged the pub's basement. London Fire Brigade was called at 5.49pm and the fire was under control by 10pm.

The pub posted on social media that it was "closed until further notice".

Station commander Keith McDermott, who was at the scene, said: "Due to the arduous, challenging and hot conditions inside the basement we increased the number of fire engines and firefighters at the scene."

A spokesperson for Fuller, Smith & Turner said: "I can confirm that we had a serious fire at the Admiralty in Trafalgar Square yesterday. The team safely and quickly evacuated the building, and nobody was injured, which was our primary concern.

"The fire has been put out and the pub will remain closed until further notice. We would like to thank London Fire Brigade for their quick response and support, and we are very proud of the way our team reacted in leading all our customers to safety so quickly."
