A sharp, fruity and floral cocktail made from chuckleberry gin from the Lake District
This cocktail was created by Pete Keighley-King, head sommelier from the Yan at Broadrayne in Grasmere in the Lake District.
Chuckleberry Ya-Groni is made using limited-edition Chuckleberry Gin from a local Shed One Distillery in Ulverston and, in keeping with the Yan’s sustainable ethos, the gin uses locally-foraged botanicals.
Chuckleberries are a hybrid of redcurrants, gooseberries and jostaberries (which are a cross between blackcurrant and gooseberry) and they add a sharp, fresh and fruity note to the gin, complemented by Aperol’s rhubarb notes. The cocktail also showcases Noilly Prat white vermouth that has been infused with elderflower handpicked from the Yan’s fields, which adds a subtle sweetness that enhances the drink’s refreshing quality.
Stir all the ingredients together in a mixing glass with ice. Serve in a square rocks glass with fresh ice, garnished with a dried orange slice.
