The first of these small format stores opened in Sevenoaks this month
Greggs has launched its first ‘Bitesize Greggs’, a smaller shop format that enables the business to target high-footfall locations within travel hubs.
The first of these shops opened last week at Sevenoaks Railway Station, creating 10 new jobs in the local area.
‘Bitesize Greggs’ are open seven days a week and offer best-selling menu items, such as sausage rolls, steak bakes, festive bakes and sweet treats, in a condensed space.
Greggs said it is looking to roll out a “small number” of these shops in conjunction with its traditional stores.
The bakery is on track to open around 120 net new shops in 2025, averaging around four new shop openings per week.
The next ‘Bitesize Greggs’ openings will be in December at Dartford Station, Kent and Cheshire Oaks.
Tony Rowson, property director at Greggs, said: “We’re excited to announce the launch of our ‘Bitesize Greggs’ concept. This small but mighty new format will allow us to reach more customers on the go from compact units, whilst still offering a selection of our best-selling products.
“The rollout of ‘Bitesize Greggs’, initially on a trial basis, will support our broader estate growth plans.”
Greggs was founded in 1939 by John Gregg in Newcastle and the business has since expanded to become a leading UK food-on-the-go retailer with more than 2,600 shops nationwide and 33,000 employees.
