The expert-led free summit will focus on how hospitality leaders can champion environmental responsibility when facing ongoing operational pressures
Sustainability policies are no longer a ‘nice to have’ for businesses, they are becoming an integral part of strategy and, increasingly, a legal requirement.
But how can hospitality leaders champion meaningful environmental change when faced with ongoing cost, staffing and operational pressures?
At The Caterer’s free expert-led Sustainability Summit on Thursday 11 September, attendees will find out the answer to this plus many more pressing questions.
The summit, sponsored by Compass UK & Ireland, will cover areas such as how hospitality leaders can embed sustainability into business strategy, the best tools to get teams excited about green goals, and balancing guest experience with environmental action.
Confirmed speakers include Ed Walker, founder and chief executive at Fika Catering and winner of Boutique Caterer of the Year at the 2024 Foodservice Cateys. Walker will take part in a panel discussion on how hospitality leaders can drive sustainability action when facing ongoing operational pressures.
Speaking to The Caterer ahead of the summit, Walker said he saw “a lot of companies trying to do the right thing” by setting sustainability goals and policies that “hold companies to account”, but he wants to encourage attendees to challenge themselves on where and how they can improve their sustainability credentials – no matter how small the action.

Joining Walker will be Charmaine McHugo, co-owner of Chapters in Hay-on-Wye in Powys, and Samantha Wilson, sustainability officer of Red Carnation Hotels.
Wilson said the industry was well placed to be a leader in sustainability but needed people who can “jump on this opportunity to make change in our industry”.
She added: “People inherently care and really want to make the world a better place, but it can feel overwhelming and oversaturation can lead to apathy, so advocating the ‘why’ of the effort is so important. Even if it feels really small, it’s actually a big deal because consistency will lead to meaningful impact and change.”
