Michelin-starred Foliage's Chris Staines plays down reported move to Reading

Chris Staines, head chef at the Michelin-starred Foliage restaurant at London's Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, has played down reports that he is to join Heckfield Place in Hampshire.

It was reported earlier today that Staines is to join the 67-bedroom property near Reading as executive chef to oversee its wedding, conference and banqueting facilities.

However, speaking to Caterersearch, Staines denied the reports.

"Nothing is confirmed yet and Heckfield is one of many places I am looking at," he said.

Staines resigned from Foliage earlier this month, after Caterersearch revealed that the five-star Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge was in discussions to launch a new restaurant with Heston Blumenthal.

Blumenthal, chef patron of the three-Michelin-starred Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, and renowned New York-based interior designer Adam Tihany, who created the interior for Foliage, have both been associated with the project.

Staines joined Foliage in 2002 from Marco Pierre White's Oak Room replacing the restaurant's previous head chef Hywel Jones.

He has retained the Michelin star Foliage first gained in 2002 and in 2007 the restaurant was identified as a rising two-star.
