Tragus profits up despite like-for-like sales fall

Restaurant group Tragus, the firm behind the Café Rouge](http://www.caferouge.co.uk/) and [Strada](http://www.strada.co.uk/) brands, expects to open around 20 new restaurants in 2011.

The announcement came as the company unveiled a 2.6% rise in underlying earnings before tax, interest, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) to £45.3m for the year to 30 May 2010. Turnover was also up by 5.9% to £277.4m but like-for-like sales were down 1.6%.

Tragus, which opened 15 restaurants in 2010, said it saw more potential for growth in its [Bella Italia](http://www.bellaitalia.co.uk/), Café Rouge and Strada brands.

It currently operates over 287 sites across the country, including 116 Café Rouges, 71 Stradas and 83 Bella Italias. It also operates 17 brasseries under the Huxleys, Belgo, Abbay, Amalfi, Potters and Ortega brands.

Tragus chief exeuctive Graham Turner commented: "This is a resilient performance from Tragus against a challenging year for the sector. The overall consumer environment remains unsettled, however Tragus's strong portfolio of brands and our robust financial position means we are well placed going forward."
