Chestnut acquires Peter Graham Wines for undisclosed sum

East Anglian pub group Chestnut has acquired wine merchant Peter Graham Wines (PGW) for an undisclosed sum.

Following the acquisition, PGW will continue to operate as a separately branded business within the Chestnut portfolio.

The two brands have worked closely for the last ten years. Chestnut is one of PGW's key clients, and the PGW team provides training to the Chestnut team, as well as collaboraring on wine tasting events.

Speaking of the acquisition Philip Turner, founder and chief executive of Chestnut, said the wine merchant's "footprint dovetails perfectly with our regional ambition and focus", and spoke of the two brands' similar values such as reducing carbon footprint in its logistics operations.

Turner added that the pub brand can support PGW's growth plans thanks to Chestnut's ability to make capital available for projects and investment.

Louisa Turner, founder of PGW, said: "Having spent 26 years building the business, I am obviously sad to be moving on, but think that Chestnut are the perfect guardian of our team, customers, and brand. Chestnut has been a core component of PGW's growth in the last ten years and cementing this strong relationship provides PGW with a great platform to grow further."

Chestnut's collection of 15 pubs includes the Rupert Brooke and the Carpenters Arms in Cambridgeshire, and The Globe Inn in Norfolk. A sixteenth pub, the Maltings in Norfolk, is due to open next year.
