More than 30 firefighters tackle blaze at Caledonian hotel in Newcastle

More than 30 firefighters tackled a blaze at the Caledonian hotel in Newcastle on Friday night.

Crews were called to the Peel group hotel at 5.30pm and discovered a fire in the roof.

Group manager Ian Warne of Tyne and Wear fire and rescue service praised the hotel's "excellent evacuation" process as he confirmed that no one had been injured.

At the height of the "challenging" incident 34 firefighters, three officers and seven appliances were at the scene.

An investigation is underway.
