'Operating in London has been increasingly challenging': Greg Marchand closes Frenchie

Greg and Marie Marchand have closed their Frenchie restaurant in London's Covent Garden after eight years of trading.

Posting the news on Instagram, the pair said the decision "has not been made lightly".

"As a family-owned restaurant, the last year operating in London has been increasingly challenging and although I wish we could continue, it is time to close our doors and focus on our restaurants in France," the post read.

"We've had the best time in this amazing city and I would like to thank our guests, suppliers, landlord, and team who have worked tirelessly to make Frenchie rock - thank you from the bottom of my heart. We hope to see you again soon London."

Greg previously cooked at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen in London, where he earned the kitchen nickname 'Frenchie', as well as the Savoy and Gramercy Tavern in New York.

He opened the first Frenchie restaurant with his wife on the Rue de Nil in Paris in 2009, before launching the Covent Garden site in 2016.

The Paris outpost holds a Michelin star, while the London site was recommended in the 2023 Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland for its "adventurous, ambitious cooking".

The menu featured simple bistro dishes using mostly British-sourced and seasonal ingredients that referenced Greg's experience in kitchens around the world.
