Bespoke Hotels gets green light to extend Hotel Gotham Newcastle development

Bespoke Hotels has secured planning permission to extend its Hotel Gotham Newcastle development to create a further 30-bedrooms.

In 2021, the independent hotel group, which has almost 90 hotels across the British Isles, secured permission to create a 60-bedroom hotel through the conversion of a disused fire station in Pilgrim Street in the city centre.

Newcastle City Council approved a subsequent application earlier this month to allow the adjacent police station and magistrates' court to be developed to extend the project.

The buildings are owned by Taras Properties and will be operated by Bespoke Hotels.

The five-storey fire station will be converted into a 60-bedroom hotel with restaurant and bar on the ground floor.

The police station and magistrates' court development will see the addition of 30-bedrooms linked to the fire station through a new extension as well as an additional bar, dining room and function space.

The fire station development is expected to open in winter 2024 while the police station rooms will launch in winter 2025.

The Newcastle launch will come nine years after the original Hotel Gotham opened in an Art Deco building in Manchester (pictured) in 2015.

Thomas Greenall, chief executive of Bespoke Hotels, said: "We're thrilled that our proposals are progressing well and we're very much looking forward to delivering an innovative and unique hospitality experience to a very exciting city."

Bespoke Hotels plans to open an additional Hotel Gotham in Bristol in 2025.

Plans to open a Hotel Gotham in Glasgow were announced in 2019, but are no longer going ahead.
