Family pay tribute following death of woman at Pennyhill Park hotel

The family of a woman in her 50s found dead at Pennyhill Park hotel have paid tribute to "an incredible mother, beautiful, much cherished daughter, and friend".

Officers were called to the Surrey hotel at 8.43am on 14 April by South East Coast Ambulance Service after Samantha Mickleburgh's body was discovered.

James Cartwright, 60, of West Street in Axminster, was arrested on the same day and has been charged with murder and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Mickleburgh's family released a tribute to her through Surrey Police.

They said: "We are devastated by the loss of Samantha, an incredible mother, beautiful, much cherished daughter, and friend.

"Loved by many, she was a true example of class, integrity, and dedication to those around her. Lighting up any room she entered with her vivacious personality and endearing smile.

"No words can truly capture all her beloved qualities and nothing will ever fill the hole left in the lives of those who loved her."

Her two children added: "Nothing can prepare you to face the world without your parents at a young age. Our mother had been both parents to us since the loss of our father and she was doing such an amazing job at it. No finer example of a Mum could there be, we will feel the loss in every aspect of our lives.

"We are grateful to be such a close family and for the support we continue to receive from those who knew Samantha. We as a family wish for privacy at this impossibly difficult time."

Cartwright had been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court yesterday.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation have been asked to get in touch with Surrey Police, quoting PR/45240041581.

Those who do not wish to speak to police but have information have been advised to call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Pennyhill Park was one of the first properties to join the Exclusive Collection in 1981.
