Second Pub du Vin launches in Birmingham

Hotel du Vin has opened its second Pub du Vin, in Birmingham.

Pub du Vin Birmingham is located in the former Cellar Bar of the Hotel du Vin in the city and is similar in style to the first Pub du Vin style launched in Brighton.

The first Pub du Vin opened in November 2008 following a £2.2m investment, but, unlike Brighton, the Birmingham site does not have its own rooms.

A spokesman for Hotel du Vin admitted that the pub had been launched "under the radar" but added that it had been an "almost overnight success with a large local following".

Robert Cook, chief executive of Hotel du Vin, initially intended to expand the Pub du Vin concept, but the company recently announced it would be scaling back its group expansion until the economy recovered.

Hotel du Vin has secured new properties in St Andrews, which is scheduled to open next summer, with hotels in Canterbury and Chester on the cards for 2011.
