£8m hotel for Portrush

Plans were unveiled last week for a 100-bedroom, four-star hotel at Portrush in County Antrim.

The £8m project, by Dalradian Leisure Developments, is expected to open by 1996 on a 12-acre site near the Royal Portrush golf course.

A spokeswoman for Dalradian said the company had entered into negotiations with hotel operators in the UK, Ireland, continental Europe and the USA.

All had expressed keen interest in the project, even before recent optimism about the prospects for peace in Northern Ireland.

It is hoped that having a top-class hotel will boost the chances of attracting the Open Championship to Royal Portrush, which last played host to the tournament as long ago as 1951.
