"This country has made very real progess in hospitality,." said Rt. Hon Chris Smith, MP Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport as he officially opened Hotelympia 2000. He added: "A lot of what happens in this industry depends on the talent of those working in it. Many of the skills here are a clear demonstration of how well we are doing."

All throughout Hotelympia many famous faces, like actor Terence Stamp, Manchester United footballer Teddy Sheringham, designer Jeff Banks, chef Nick Nairn and Ken Hom were seen at the show.
