Appeal for cash to aid starving

Action Against Hunger is appealing to Caterer readers to raise money to save children dying from starvation and disease in crisis-hit northern Sudan.

The campaign, which is being run by Caterer-backed Restaurants Against Hunger, is asking for immediate help to set up three more feeding stations and hire 15 nurses and nutritionists.

Action Against Hunger has already sent 65 tonnes of relief items, set up four feeding centres for more than 2,000 malnourished children, and distributed high-energy biscuits to 6,000 youngsters in Darfur.

More than a million people have been displaced and forced into refugee camps by the crisis so far.

The charity is also holding a fundraising week from 9-17 October, which will raise money to provide meals for thousands of starving children in the world.

Several well-known chefs have already pledged support for the promotional week, including, Rick Stein, Giorgio Locatelli and Paul Heathcote, as well as restaurant critics Jay Rayner, Matthew Fort and Fay Maschler.
