A product described as "a huge leap forward for the soft ice cream market" has been awarded the coveted title of Best New Product by the Ice Cream Alliance. It is a revolutionary new soft ice cream freezer for mobile vans, developed by Whitby Engineering and Carpigiani, which solves the problems associated with overnight ice cream storage.

Lisa Greene, the ICA's chief executive, said the judges believed the new Overnight Cooler could potentially save the mobile ice cream industry thousands of pounds whilst increasing ice cream sales. "It will also improve hygiene standards, encourage best practice and generally enhance the profile of the industry", she concludes.

Until now, because soft ice cream vans are powered solely by the vehicle's engine, when this is turned off at the end of the day refrigeration and cooling automatically stop. So, unless hygiene is to be put at risk, the ice cream machine must be emptied daily, its contents disposed of and the machine stripped down, cleaned, sanitised and rebuilt ready for the next day's trading.

Now the machine can be kept safely refrigerated overnight, so the liquefied product is kept at optimum temperature and in perfect condition, ready for the next day's trading. For the operator, it's simplicity itself - when the day's work is over, just plug the Cooler into an electrical socket and it automatically does the rest.

The price is £950 plus VAT.
