Bangladeshi food festival is launched

A Bangladeshi food festival was launched this week to celebrate the influence of the country's food in Britain.

Amin Ali, proprietor of London's Red Fort restaurant and a major sponsor of the event, said: "Whenever people think of Bangladesh, they think of poverty and floods, but we as a nation have a lot more to offer from our rich culture."

We have created a presence here in the UK in the past 25 years and this is evident by our strong influence in the restaurant sector."

More than 85% of so-called Indian restaurants in the UK are owned by people of Bangladeshi descent and many in and around London are taking part in the festival.
