Banham to replace Angus at Whitbread

Sir Michael Angus will be stepping down as chairman of Whitbread next year.

He is to be replaced by Sir John Banham, currently chairman of Kingfisher and Tarmac, who will take over after the brewing-to-hotels giant's annual general meeting in June.

Banham, 59, joined Whitbread today as a non-executive director.

Angus, 69, has been chairman of Whitbread since 1992.

The firm's UK interests include Travel Inn hotels, Costa coffee shops, Pizza Hut and Bella Pasta, as well as managed and leased pubs.

It has annual sales of £3.4b but has seen its share price fall dramatically since the beginning of this year.
