Barcelona room yield shoots up

Barcelona's booming convention market and growing popularity as a short-break destination has led to a 22.7% increase in average hotel room yield, to Pts22,614 (£83), during the first six months of the year, according to the latest figures from Jones Lang LaSalle.

New hotels might put a brake on yields, however - 1,347 rooms are under construction and 3,793 are due to open between 2001 and 2003. "This will most likely have the effect of dampening hotel occupancy rates in the medium term," said Arthur de Haast, managing director Europe at Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels.

Room yield in Madrid increased by 18.5% to reach Pts21,873 (£80) during the first half of 2000.
