Bass bosses break £1m income barrier

Two Bass executives saw their annual income go through the £1m barrier last year.

Payments to chairman and chief executive Ian Prosser jumped from £914,000 in 1998 to £1,004,000 last year, a figure that includes a basic salary of £700,000 plus performance pay and benefits totalling £304,000. In addition, Prosser can look forward to enjoying an annual pension of £422,400.

The steepest pay rise was enjoyed by the chairman and chief executive officer of Bass Hotels and Resorts, Tom Oliver, who joined the Bass board in 1998. His annual payments rocketed from £396,000 in 1998 to £1,008,000 last year, with 1999 wages boosted by performance payments of £544,000 and benefits of £50,000 on top of a basic salary of £414,000.
