Bath relaunches ‘real breakfast' awards
An environmentally-friendly award scheme to get hotels and guesthouses in Bath to use only locally produced food in their breakfasts has been relaunched after it flopped in the spring.
The Real Bath Breakfast Scheme - which requires that all food has to be produced within a 40-mile radius of Bath Abbey - has been taken up by only two of the city's hotels since it began in March.
The project was relaunched last week (8 August) after organisers called a meeting to find out why it had failed to catch on.
Pat Tutt, environment co-ordinator for Bath and North East Somerset Council, said she hoped more establishments would join now.
"It seemed to be a perception problem, with small guesthouses in particular thinking that suppliers would not be bothered with their small orders. But we had suppliers at the meeting who made it clear they were happy to supply any amount.
"The chef from Pratts hotel, which has the award, gave recipe ideas and we gave out lists of suppliers. I think many more will now get involved."
Hotels with the breakfast award will be highlighted in the city's annual tourism brochure.
