Bed tax plan still on table

The head of Edinburgh City Council, Keith Geddes, is pursuing his proposal to introduce a bed tax in the city.

Mr Geddes believes tourists should pay a 2% tax on hotel and guesthouse bills. "It would raise significant funds to reinvest in tourism," he said.

Mr Geddes said this week that a law should be introduced allowing councils to raise such taxes. His proposals caused an outcry among Edinburgh hoteliers when first mooted earlier this year
