Beef ban lifted by Christmas

The beef-on-the-bone ban will be lifted across the UK on 17 December, agriculture minister Nick Brown announced today.

The chief medical officers of the UK met today to consider their advice on the safety risk of eating beef on the bone.

Taking into account a recent analysis by scientists from Oxford University, the chief medical officers agreed the ban should be lifted.

"This includes lifting the ban on food prepared for direct sale to consumers in restaurants and other catering establishments," Brown said.
