Ceramic cafetieres

A colourful new approach to cafetiere service has been introduced by Primeware Ceramics with its range of traditional style ceramic cafetieres in a choice of white, Mediterranean blue and British racing green. The matching ceramic have silver rims.

Two sizes are offered - 450 ml/two cup, priced at £18 each, and one litre/six Cup at £25. The straight-sided coffee pot is microwaveable and can be printed with logos or other visual material. The plunger filter is made of stainless steel.

Vacuum brew

For a distinctive style of at-table coffee provision, the original Cona method of vacuum brewing is still going. The coffee is prepared entirely in glass with no metal parts to taint the flavour.

The unit comprises two interconnecting glass bowls with a heater base and can also be used for tea-making. Three sizes are available (1, 1.5 and 2 pints) and prices range from £69 to £100.

A modern version of the traditional samovar from WMF brings a dramatic new style to tea service in applications such as breakfast buffets. It comprises an electrically heated 3 litre capacity vessel with tap holding hot water and a small 0.75 litre teapot which stands on top.

"Perking" with panache

While overshadowed by the electronic brewing technology of recent years, the percolator continues to find a niche wherever portability is paramount such as in outside catering and conference beverage provision. The five model Argo series of percolators offers brew capacities from 40 to 125 cups of coffee. Each unit has a "coffee and cream" powder coated colour scheme as standard or alternatively a traditional polished finish.

The Kudos, latest countertop catering water boiler from Calomax, is considered particularly suitable for front-of-house applications with a two-tone brushed/ mirror finish outer casing in stainless steel and an optional mirror finished stainless steel back panel which covers all pipework and connections. Safety features include cool-to-touch construction of the outer casing and a heat-shrouded tap.

USE of reflective stainless steel plus new rounded styling and blue taps with a tear-shaped bezel help boost the point-of-sale impact of the improved range of Lincat automatic fill water boilers.

A further improvement is a new internal condensing system which reduces steam emissions by venting into the drip tray, which is now provided as a standard feature.

Serve to taste

The Fresh One is in the name of a new electronically controlled Bravilor coffee machine which dispenses a range of three set blends to suit individual tastes plus hot-water for other drinks. The ingredient throw, brew time and water volume can all be programmed to suit the application and customers' strength requirements.

The machine can be set to dispense spent grounds into a waste appliance. Production of up to 180 cups per hour is claimed.

Easy espresso

A simple modification, involving fitment of a plastic block inside the group holder, enables Bezzera traditional espresso coffee brewers to produce coffee from "pots" which are supplied pre-packed with ground coffee.

The Bistro, latest machine from Bezzera, is available in both fully and semi-automatic versions models, specifically aimed at smaller, design conscious establishments.

New levels of automation are incorporated in the XXL, latest fully automatic filter coffee brewer with integral bean grinder from Hobart. Built-in flow sensors are claimed to ensure maximum consistency while programming enables the machine to be switched on and off at predetermined times. Hourly output of the new machine is put at 600 cups of black coffee.

The growing demand for "on the move" provision of hot beverages has encouraged Autobar Beverage Systems to develop a rental programme for its Coffee Carts.

The mobile units are made in 1600 and 2250 mm lengths Rental prices, which are tied to supply of ingredients, start around £55 per week. per cup.
