BII chairman Bernard Brindley dies aged 63

Bernard Brindley, the chairman of the BII has died aged 63.

The BII announced the news of Brindley's death earlier today.

He is understood to have passed away suddenly in his sleep at his home on Sunday.

Prior to his appointment as chairman of the BII in 2012, Brindley, a long-standing publican, was a regional chairman of the organisation. He also chaired the Pub Independent Rent Review Scheme.

Tim Hulme, the BII's chief executive, said: "We are all deeply shocked at this sad news and all our thoughts are with Bernard's family.

"He had played a pivotal role in the transformation the BII has been undergoing over the last year and was liked and respected by everyone who knew him. He will be missed greatly by all of us at the BII."
