Brewing advance

MELITTA has redesigned its modular 600 bulk brew filter coffee maker series with advance programming which enables the machine to switch on, warm up and begin its filter programme at a required time (for breakfast service, say). Any quantity between 5 and 40 litres can be pre-selected.

The 600 Series uses the established combination of central hot water boiler and one or two porcelain lined urns into which coffee is made via the Melitta Pyramid filter system. Machines, which also supply hot water, can be supplied in either a buffet design with its own hotplate or as a mobile unit with a trolley. Additional outlets for hot water and coffee can be fitted to the rear of the machine.

• Melitta's recently relaunched Cafina C5 automatic espresso machine beat off competitors in comparative trials by the John Lewis Partnership involving five fully automatic machine makes. Trials considered reliability, ease of use, speed of delivery, consistency of coffee quality and cleaning efficiency as well as engineers' response times, cost of maintenance and cost of cleaning.
