Brits love their big breakfasts

Is the great British breakfast a dying tradition? Not according to a report from market researchers at Mintel.

Catering for Breakfast claims breakfasting out has a broad appeal across all age ranges and classes of people.

At home people reach for the cereal packet, but when eating out a cooked breakfast is still a favourite choice.

Mintel's survey found almost four in 10 adults had eaten a cooked breakfast outside the home in the past three months.

The table shows the most popular venues for eating breakfast out of home. Topping the list are cafés and coffee shops, which are favoured equally, regardless of sex or class of the breakfaster.

A workplace canteen, on the other hand, tends to be used more by men than women. Men also predominate in the roadside market.

Catering for Breakfast costs £455 from Mintel International Group. Tel: 0171-606 6000.
