Broster to build up stakis's leisure arm

Stuart Broster this week became operations director for Stakis's LivingWell leisure club division, the arm set up following the acquisition of LivingWell Health & Leisure in May.

Mr Broster, who was previously one of four area directors for Stakis and general manager of the Stakis Leicester hotel, will now work on rebranding the leisure facilities in 21 Stakis hotels under the LivingWell banner. He will also look at the potential for building clubs in the company's 21 hotels without leisure facilities, as well as building standalone clubs.

Andrea Clarke, previously deputy manager at the Stakis Leicester, becomes its resident manager. She and Stephen Elliott, operations director for Stakis, will take on Mr Broster's responsibilities until replacements are found.

Wenham takes new post at BHA

The British Hospitality Association (BHA) has appointed its first-ever sales manager in abid to boost membership levels.

Nick Wenham takes on the role after working as a consultant for two months for the BHA, researching potential for the recruitment of new members. He has also reviewed the BHA's communications strategy with existing members.

Mr Wenham formerly worked as an account manager for telecommunications giant BT.

Staff step up at regal hotels

The Regal Hotel Group has made a batch of senior management appointments in the wake of its acquisition of 60 White Hart hotels from Granada in May.

David Westerby has been named operations director Midlands East for the company, and Craig Dowie has replaced him as general manager at the West Retford Hotel, Retford, Nottinghamshire. Mr Dowie was previously general manager of Kenwick Park Hotel & Leisure Club in Louth, Lincolnshire.

Tony Holland has become regional operations director, West, for Regal. He previously worked as operations director with De Vere Hotels.

Elsewhere, Neil Atkinson has been appointed general manager of Regal's Manor House hotel in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, having moved from the Station Hotel in Dudley, West Midlands.

Mr Atkinson replaces Raymond Flanagan who has left the Manor House to become general manager of the Plymouth Posthouse.

Former swallow managers pair up

Two ex-managers from Swallow hotels have teamed up to launch their own hospitality business, H&H Narrowboat Hotels.

Guy Harmer was previously food and beverage manager at the Imperial Swallow Hotel, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Nigel Hamilton used to work as food, beverage, conference and banqueting manager at the Swallow Hotel, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, before moving into consultancy last year.

Their business is based on two steel canal boats, Hind and Hart, in Crick Marina, Northamptonshire, and aims to attract conference business as well as holidaymakers.

Trio switch roles at RPAS committee

The Restaurant Property Advisors Society (RPAS) has made three senior changes to its executive committee.

Michael Freedman, partner of Adlers, moves up from vice-chairman to chairman of RPAS; David Coffer, chairman of Davis Coffer Lyons, becomes vice-chairman of RPAS; and previous chairman Duncan Lillie, partner of Kemsley Whitely & Ferris, remains on the committee.

The RPAS's 38 members are professional property advisors specialising in the catering sector.
