Butlin's hotels sold off to Heritage boss

Rank Group has sold five Butlin's hotels to entrepreneur Kevin Leech for an estimated £20m.

Leech, who owns the John O'Groats hotel in Caithness and the Land's End hotel in Cornwall under his Heritage Great Britain company, has set up a new company for the hotels.

The five hotels, in Brighton, Margate, Llandudno, Scarborough and Blackpool, will come under the Grand Hotel Group, in which Leech is a majority shareholder.

The new group's director, Stuart Sim, said that although there will be some investment in the properties, they will continue to be run as three-star hotels.
