Caines quiet on rumoured Exeter deal

Chef Michael Caines of Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon, was keeping tight-lipped this week over rumours that he is to open his own restaurant in Exeter.

The chef, who was awarded his second Michelin star this year for Gidleigh Park, is believed to be close to signing a deal for a property in Exeter.

But it is understood that Caines intends to remain at Gidleigh Park, which is owned by Paul and Kay Henderson, while managing his own restaurant.

Caines said it was "no secret" that he had wanted his own venture in Exeter for some time, but he declined to give details.
