The rising trend will bring relief to many Scottish hoteliers who are keen to boost occupancy during the low season. Since December 1992, bedroom occupancy has climbed steadily each year so that it was eight percentage points higher in December 1996.
The best-performing tourist board area was Edinburgh and Lothians with a bedroom occupancy of 53% in December 1996, although this was a fall of one percentage point compared with December 1995.
