Caterer and Hotelkeeper – 22982

Trevor Gulliver, managing director of Fat Boy's Diners in London, is being forced to seek a new site for his treasured Covent Garden diner because a development is planned at its present location.

The diner, one of two original 1950s American diners owned by Fat Boy's in London, has been at the Maiden Lane site since 1991. It only needs a space of 50sq ft, but Mr Gulliver, who also owns St John restaurant in Farringdon, wants to find it a new home in keeping with its status.

"It's not just a restaurant, it's a piece of history," said Mr Gulliver. "If it were in America it would be a listed building."

The diner was built about 45 years ago and has been restored to its original condition.
