Duncan Hamilton (pictured) has started the UK's first school of ice sculpture, where he plans to teach a diploma course for those wanting to take up ice-sculpting professionally.

Mr Hamilton, who has been an ice sculptor for 20 years, is employed by 70 London hotels and his work is regularly seen at banquets and receptions. Besides centrepiece displays of swans and shells, he has undertaken over 500 specially commissioned sculptures.

Courses, which start at the school's Wimbledon premises in the new year, will run for four days and cost £1,500. He is also planning to offer two-hour demonstrations to provide an introduction to the art.
