It is all very well for the jury to return verdicts "in accordance with medical evidence", but we ought to have something beyond the formal record of such deaths. Here is something in which the London County Council might really do some good; every itinerant ice vendor should be strictly registered and strictly watched."

"A hotel owner from Soho Square, London, was fined £40 and ordered to pay £20 costs at Swansea recently for contravention of the rationing orders.
The manager was fined atotal of £8 and £5 costs for aiding and abetting. It was alleged that the firm failed to keep accurate records of rationed food; failed to keep accurate records of hotmeals and beverages served;made a false statement for the purpose of obtaining rationed goods; and it used more than the permitted quantity of rationed food."

"The campaign to liberate England's licensing laws to bring them into line with the freer Scottish licensing hours received two boosts last week from the Brewers' Society and English Tourist Board.
Two separate surveys by the Brewers' Society into Scotland's licensing hours found the new hours received strong support from the majority of the Scottish public. Licensees believe customer behaviour has improved and drinking has become more relaxed and pleasant.
lThe dock strike could have a dramatic effect on supplies of fruit and vegetables and cause prices to fluctuate wildly. Increases must be allowed for when buying imported produce."
